I think we can safely say that TV has speeded up over the last 20 years. Look at just about any 80s series and the speed of dialogue and action is almost unbearably slow compared with today.

Strangely though, I find the Original Series Trek still very compelling and if I catch an episode on flicking through the TV I'm still enticed into watching it. :)
