Writing metrics 21/8/11

Between Wind and Water
1,062 new words added. 3,109 old words cut.

The good news is that it's finished.
The bad news is that it's still 123,013 words long.
Bummer.

I don't know where to cut, or even if I should cut. I think I have to let Agent Beth have the final word. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] brownnicky for offering help. I'm sending it today.

Well, if you kept writing for another week at this rate, you should have the wordage you were looking for...

Congrats on finishing!

Thanks. Yes, I need to write negative wordage this week.

Yeah. Thanks for sending it I'm going to enjoy rereading it. i'll try and look at it over the next few days. Do you want me to suggest cuts? How much do you need to lose?

Thanks, Nicky. You're a star. Yes please, suggesting cuts would be briliant. I think I can lose a few thousand words by general tightening, but I'd like to get it down to between 112k and 115k if possible.

Don't feel obliged to cut just to get the words down though. I turned in a 135K novel when contracted for 100K, and neither editor nor agent commented on the excessive wordage.
