Swimming the Channel with a Colostomy Bag
Jul. 16th, 2008 11:13 pmIt seems mad but my young friend, Jenny Best, who had to have major surgery at the tender age of 30 because Crohn's Disease had destroyed her bowel and who will have to live the rest of her life with a colostomy, is all set to be the first person with a colostomy to swim the English Channel. It's challenging enough for someone who is in the peak of health, but Jenny is setting out to prove that having a colostomy needn't impose limitations. Apart from her swimming, she's just graduated with a 2.1 degree in archeology, obtained whilst working part time (at Stonehenge), having several bouts of major surgery and carrying on with being a wife and young mum to a lively little boy.
She's raising money for the colostomy and ileostomy charity and I've already sponsored her. I know you don't all know her, but if you are amazed and inspired by her madness and bravery and want to chuck a couple of quid in her direction, here's where to go to do it:

Ferlonda, just in case you're wondering - yes she is Sarah's daughter.
