I spent most of today updating my music agency website to include two great new acts, the Mighty Zulu Nation and The Queensberry Rules who will both be available for UK festivals in 2009.

As a music agent I turn down so many acts who want me to represent them for UK touring, some because they just are not right for the market, but mostly because I just haven't got the capacity to take on even a tenth of the people who ask (possibly even a hundfedth...). Most of them are fine performers but there are just not enough hours in the day.

And then as a writer I get frustrated because I can't find an agent to represent me.

Daft, innit?

Or maybe it's karma.

When I contemplate taking on a new touring act they have to be not only musically impeccable, and entirely to my taste, but they have to have some kind uf USP - unique selling point.

What's my USP as a writer?

Maybe when I figure that out I'll get myself an agent.

I never make enough time for reading, so I've made myself a promise to read a little each day. In the past couple of weeks I've read:and greatly enjoyed:
Warriors of Camlann (N. M Brown) - waves to [profile] brownnicky
Principles of Angels (Jaine Fenn)  - waves to [personal profile] maeve_the_red
Warprize  (Elizabeth Vaughan) which I picked up as a light bit of froth from the library - it being a cross-genre fantasy romance
...and...
I've just started Pratchett's 'Last Continent' which for some reason I'd missed out even though I've read everything else. I think it's because it's Rincewind and he's not a favourite character.

Plus I now have my very own copy of Fabulous Whitby and I've been doing the web page for it, too. The beta-testing site is up there now minus a few things that authors still have not sent me. It's at at http://www.fabulousalbion.co.uk

I'm still wondering what to submit for Milford in September. Some folks are sending in their pieces already but I haven't even written mine yet. I could dig out something older, but I'd feel it was a cop-out

I have had friends over from Canada who've never seen Doctor Who before, so we're watching New Who from the beginning again. Whoo-hoo. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances is just as good eleventh time round... (lost track of how many times I've watched it with other people). We're into the second season now. 'School Reunion'  was great fun.

Been doing some more family history and I've broken the 1600s barrier for the first time on one of Best Beloved's family lines, but one of mine (George Crow/Crowe and Eliza Lindley) stubbornly refuses to reveral itself beyond my g-g-granparents who were born 1837 and 1840. I've sent for their marriage cert (1860) so in another few days or so I might find out what each of their fathers was called and where they lived at the time of the marriage.
