Book Meets Wall
Jun. 11th, 2010 07:39 pmSo on a trip to York last year I bought some SF books via the 'browse and see what jumps out at me' method and I've just started to read: 'Traitor to the Blood' by Barb and J C Hendee.
Started and hurled it away.
I couldn't get into it and quickly began to realise that I'd obviously picked up a sequel. So when I checked it up on the net I discover it's not even a sequel - it is, in fact, Book 4 in the 'Noble Dead' series. There was no indication anywhere in the book that this was NOT a standalone or at least a first book.
It does in fact say 'A NOVEL OF THE NOBLE DEAD' on the back blurb, all in caps so there's no indication that 'Noble Dead' is a series title. I checked the rest of the book pretty thoroughly. Nowhere does it say 'Book 4 in the Noble Dead Series'. If it had I obviously would not have bought it.
Some books might let you in to a series halfway, but by page 19 I realised this is not the case with this one.
Book meets wall.
Hrrmph! Can I please have my £6.99 back.
