Movie of the Week: Hobbs & Shaw

Before I start, I confess that I haven't seen any Fast and Furious movies, so I'm not familiar with the characters. I've seen the trailers - which are end to end car chases - and that's been enough to put me off, however there wasn't much on at the movies tjhis week (that we hadn't seen already) so we decided to risk it.

It wasn't bad for a wet Tuesday afternoon with Meerkat Movies twofers, but unfortunately the fight scenes and the chases (while inventive) were too long. I suppose I should have expected that given its ancestry.

The script was perfect for a twelve year old boy audience, but there was good chemistry between the three leads. Vanessa Kirby (Hattie) was a good foil for Johnson and Statham, however, and I loved Helen Mirren's brief appearance as Statham's mother, banged up in jail for a rest. Her one desire is to see Statham and his sister Hattie reconciled.

There are a few plot-holes but the action flashes past so quickly that you barely notice..
