RIP Sir Patrick Moore

RIP Sir Patrick Moore.

I watched The Sky at Night, last night (the repeat from Monday's broadcast) not realising that he'd died earlier in the day and that was his last ever broadcast. I remember being allowed to stay up to watch it as a child.

Sir Patrick himself was at my son's graduation at Cambridge, always invited, apparently, presumably as a fellow of Magdalene College. I wish I'd had the nerve to tell him that even though I knew nothing about astronomy, his programmes had inspired me to dream.

Oh! I never knew that. Thanks for letting us know:-(

When will we ever see his like again? A xylophone-playing astronomer who spoke so very, very fast...

He played a mean xylophone too! :o)

One of the great English eccentrics.

Am I right in thinking I've heard/seen him play Flight of the Bumblebee? Probably on Parky or something like that.

A great man, will be sadly missed and fondly remembered as a great British institution. I notice that Terry Pratchett has provided an interview soundbite for the news.
