RIP Sir Patrick Moore.
I watched The Sky at Night, last night (the repeat from Monday's broadcast) not realising that he'd died earlier in the day and that was his last ever broadcast. I remember being allowed to stay up to watch it as a child.
Sir Patrick himself was at my son's graduation at Cambridge, always invited, apparently, presumably as a fellow of Magdalene College. I wish I'd had the nerve to tell him that even though I knew nothing about astronomy, his programmes had inspired me to dream.
