Number one daughter and her partner are flat hunting in London. Does anyone have any contacts or ideas? Their budget is £300 per week max. Daughter works in Hammersmith. Partner in Canary Wharf.
I don't know really - they tend to go quite quickly. I'll ask around but Richmond is probably not the best area for them. It's pricey and can be a bit of a haul from Canary Wharf. If they need anywhere to stay while looking I can offer them a bed for a night or two.
Actually Richmond was one of the areas they quite fancied. I think she said there was a decent overland train for boyfriend to get to work and it's not too bad for her in Hammersmith. They already have a longish journey now to their jobs from N4.
Thanks for the offer of accommodation but they're OK for the next few weeks as they still have a flat-share in north London, but have to be out of it in a months's time as their lease is up. They were hoping their landlord was going to let them have it for another three months but he says it's 12 months or nothing and their flat-share friends have a place to move into in three months so can't renew.
Daughter is terribly picky about areas, hating anywhere she doesn't feel entirely safe. Yes, I know 'safe' is relative in any city, but she was both mugged and beaten up in Liverpool - in 2 separate incidents - and it's made her nervous. So the cheaper areas - Whitechapel and shuchlike where she could get a lot more for her money - are mostly not to her liking.
So she's looking for a one-bedroom flat (not a studio) for 1200 a month or less if she can find one. Any help much appreciated. In the event of something needing to be acted on fast I'm on 01484 606230.
Well my husband commuted for a year or so to Canary Wharf so it is doable - it's just not ideal. I think I've throen away this week's property paper but I'll try to pick one up on Monday.
You could try this.Avoid Ham there are no transport links. Twickenham is cheaper as is Kew. Richmond is easier because it has the underground and overland service. Lichfield Court is usually quite good value and is close to the station and v central for shops. I've looked at lots of flats there.
If she wants me to meet her and take her round a few places I could. I've lived in the area for twenty years.
Actually prices aren't bad. The Church Rd properties are about a minute from me and very close to the station and the Sheen Rd flat is also quite close. The Friar Stile Rd one is in Richmond village at the top of the hill- a nice location about five minutes from the Terraced Gardens and the river, but about ten minutes from the station. Chances are they'll all be small that's the only trouble.
