Agreed about the two later Sharpes. They were OK but a mild disappointment. I'm a great fan of the early ones, but then, my mate John Tams is in them as Hagman. Though he still gets a music credit on these his character was killed off at Waterloo. I'm disappointed they've lost his happy ever after by killing off his Frenchwoman back at the farm.
I'd have liked to have seen them do Sharpe in the Americas (one book takes him there) or searching for his daughter, maybe, rather than going back to India. If they want to film the India books - which is Sharpe as a private and a sergeant before his field commission - I'm surprised they haven't yet noticed that Richard Armitage would make a wonderful young Sharpe. He could almost be Sean Bean's baby brother. It would also give then a good excuse to bring back the awful Sgt Hakeswell.
