Demons

Is it just me or was anyone else a bit unimpressed with Demons? I like Philip Glennister, but why, oh why, the terrible American accent? It's British made and set in Britain so why cast a Brit as an American?

Saturday night TV is almost bad enough to wonder if they're doing a third season of Robin the Hoodie.

And we haven't even got a full season of regular Doctor Who to look forward to in spring.

Re the BBC i-player: I used it for the forst time last night and downloaded a programme i'd missed but the playback stutters and suffers from digital breakip. I didn't expect this when i dowmloaded it (rather than watcher it as streaming video). I've downloaded all the p[lugins and i have a spiffy fast machine. What might I be doing wrong? Or is it always like that?

PS I have the Sharpe thing recorded from the telly. email me off-piste.

That's strange re the iPlayer. I've always had excellent playback, even full screen. My computer is a couple of years old and though pretty fast at the time, it's probably a tortoise compared to yours. I've even used the iPlayer satisfactorily on the Eee, but you can't download and have to just watch online. I suppose it's possible there was a glitch just on that one program, but if it happens all the time, perhaps explore the BBC site to see if there's any help to be had there?

Re the Sharp, it's fine. I don't know whether I've gone off Sharpe or whether it's just that the last couple weren't up to the standard of the early ones, but I wasn't really bothered when I couldn't watch the rest. I have all the original Sharpes on video, so if I feel a need for a dose of Sean Bean, I think I'll do better watching those. :)

Agreed about the two later Sharpes. They were OK but a mild disappointment. I'm a great fan of the early ones, but then, my mate John Tams is in them as Hagman. Though he still gets a music credit on these his character was killed off at Waterloo. I'm disappointed they've lost his happy ever after by killing off his Frenchwoman back at the farm.

I'd have liked to have seen them do Sharpe in the Americas (one book takes him there) or searching for his daughter, maybe, rather than going back to India. If they want to film the India books - which is Sharpe as a private and a sergeant before his field commission - I'm surprised they haven't yet noticed that Richard Armitage would make a wonderful young Sharpe. He could almost be Sean Bean's baby brother. It would also give then a good excuse to bring back the awful Sgt Hakeswell.

Now that is a wonderful idea! :)

I'm really surprised no one had cottoned on to the similarity yet. Even their voices are similar and Armitage's northern accent matches Bean's.
