Is it just me or was anyone else a bit unimpressed with Demons? I like Philip Glennister, but why, oh why, the terrible American accent? It's British made and set in Britain so why cast a Brit as an American?
Saturday night TV is almost bad enough to wonder if they're doing a third season of Robin the Hoodie.
And we haven't even got a full season of regular Doctor Who to look forward to in spring.

What a disappointment!

Date: Jan. 4th, 2009 05:18 pm (UTC)I have no idea. Were they trying to do a reverse Buffy (whose mentor was English)? But if so, why not cast an American actor?
I don't know whether I'll try to watch it. That Saturday night slot is awkward because I'm usually cooking or eating dinner and G wouldn't want to watch it anyway. Dr Who and Merlin could be watched via the iPlayer, but I haven't had much success with the ITV version. I tried to watch the last Sharpe thing and it kept buffering so I was left with a series of still photos and a sound track. I was not a happy bunny!

Date: Jan. 5th, 2009 02:43 pm (UTC)Re the Sharp, it's fine. I don't know whether I've gone off Sharpe or whether it's just that the last couple weren't up to the standard of the early ones, but I wasn't really bothered when I couldn't watch the rest. I have all the original Sharpes on video, so if I feel a need for a dose of Sean Bean, I think I'll do better watching those. :)

Date: Jan. 5th, 2009 03:58 pm (UTC)I'd have liked to have seen them do Sharpe in the Americas (one book takes him there) or searching for his daughter, maybe, rather than going back to India. If they want to film the India books - which is Sharpe as a private and a sergeant before his field commission - I'm surprised they haven't yet noticed that Richard Armitage would make a wonderful young Sharpe. He could almost be Sean Bean's baby brother. It would also give then a good excuse to bring back the awful Sgt Hakeswell.

The girl who was only there to be attacked. "I have a bad feeling about this." Oh please.
Though 'Use the Force, Luke" was quite funny.
Perhaps now the scene is set it will improve, my hopes are not high, however.
According to IMDb Ruby is in all six episodes. Oh dearie, dearie me.

Date: Jan. 5th, 2009 01:19 pm (UTC)And in these days of superb professional vocal/speech coaching when Lena Heady (a local Yorkahire lass) can totally pull off the American accent for the Sarah Connor Chronicles, why can't a great actor like Philip Glennister do better?

Date: Jan. 5th, 2009 02:41 pm (UTC)Re the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I'm not 100% convinced, though I really like what Lena Heady has done with the role. I've missed a few in the second season and (possibly because it's a long time since I saw Terminator 2) I'm a bit adrift on the mythos.
Last year I was really looking forward to Pushing Daisies, but after the first two episodes I ditched it. The first episode was sweet the second was gooey sickly-sweet and after that it made me want to barf.
At this rate the best thing on TV might be the re-runs of Voyager season five on Virgin (which I never saw in the first place). Now that's a sad indictment.
I just bought the third season of Deadwood on DVD. Now there's something that's not sickly-sweet.

Date: Jan. 5th, 2009 02:55 pm (UTC)Ahem.
I don't really care if the SCC isn't entirely consistent with the films, Assassin Robots From The Future - what's not to like?
Heroes has gone a bit strange, but I have hopes it will improve - when it comes back. I liked Pushing Daisies but don't think there was enough in it to sustain it for long. It was interesting seeing The Pie Man playing a sinister role in The Good Shepherd.
I saw Voyager all the first time round, I think I've seen all of them a few times now.
I shall go to see the film when it arrives and this weekend I shall persuade Spouse to take me to see the new Daniel Craig - yum - film. Bones isn't back, Fringe isn't back, Heroes isn't back, SCC isn't back, aaaaaaah!
I should be writing, I know.
