Diezel Dog

Went to bring home the 8 week baby yesterday. I had him on my knee in the car all the way (2 hours) and after five minutes of yowling he settled down and slept for two hours with no more fussing and (thank goodness) no sign of travel sickness.

Diezel puppy duly installed in the household with usual expected puddles (and more) and yowling when he's left alone for a moment, but all that will pass (hopefully). It must be awfully strange for the little chap to be yanked out of a cosy billet with his brother and sisters and mum and dumped with two complete strangers. At the moment he's fixed on BB as his alternative mum and gets awfully anxious if separated, so we're gradually training him by ignoring all yowls and whimpers and praising silence. This afternoon he learned how to kill his blanket and now wants to play.

He's grown tremendously in just the last week. Just compare the two photos.

He looked marginally less than elegant this evening sprawled out in the kitchen, half on and half off his pet-rug as if it made no difference to him. Perhaps he was just trying to prove he was 'well 'ard' by lying on the flaggdstone floor.

'Pet bed? I don't need to steenkin' pet bed.'

Shepherd? Or shepherd mix? I had 'em all my life - it's my breed - and I love them to pieces, and I think this young'un is GORGEOUS. If you weren't across a fricking ocean from me I'd probably be at your back door whining for cuddles.

Draco trained to be silent in his crate at night very easily.

However, at about six months he woke up to how good it was to bark at things, and we are still working on rewarding silence and getting him to leave off barking at the dog next door (or the cats) two months later. (Though he still doesn't bark at night.) However, he is a terrier and therefore not very bright - GSDs are far brighter so I have hopes for Diezel...

Tonight we tried the smaller cage and left it in the kitchen. He hardly made a sound and settled down very quickly. I have hope that the penny has dropped.

At 8 weeks I'm surprised that he barked (well, OK, yapped) when I walked into the kitchen this morning.
