A couple of nights ago a huge house spider fell victim to the automatic reaction of my stomping foot as it tore across the carpet heading directly TOWARDS me. If BB's around I'll yell for him to put it out, but if I'm
on my own then it's either run or fight. If it's far enough away I can ignore it, but if it's in close proximity I am merciless.

We have funnel weavers, too. Not the dangerous Australian versions, the benign but kinds scary British ones. They find bits of carpet that are not often trodden on (or vacuumed I have to confess) and weave a grey gauze across them, like gossamer. A few years ago I found one that had woven a complete funnel down the side of
my filing cabinet. As squicky as I am about spiders, I left it alone for the best part of a month because it was fascinating, and then reading that August was the mating season, I sucked it into the hoover at the end of July. Sad but true.

Am I the only one that finds 'Charlotte's Web' gruesome?

It's the big garden ones with fat bodies I don't like, but I leave them alone. I don't mind the carpet-prowlers at all, I like their combination of daring and caution. When it's very quiet you can hear their feet when they run.

Euwww! I can't imagine anything worse than hearing their feet when they run.

It's not the fact that they're crawling on my carpet in full view that gets me, but the fact that I don't know where they are or what they're up to when they're NOT crawling across my carpet.
