We figured this might be a bit of harmless brain candy, I mean, Jeremy Renner, right?

How wrong could we be? Descriptors that come to mind include puerile. It lacked script, charm, humour, plot and on-screen chemistry. All the actors dialled it in. We saw the 2D version, from the whizzy visuals the 3D one would have been appalling. It was an interesting concept: Hansel and Gretel, having defeated the witch in the candy cottage grow up to be kick-ass witch-hunters. With a decent script, a modicum of character development, a plot, some rationale for including automatic rapid-fire guns in a pseudomedievalish/fairtytale setting, and a director who actually, y'know, cared about what he was doing, this could have been a reasonable Wednesday afternoon out, but even at 2 for 1 ticket prices I'd like my money back and two hours of my time, please.

It was supposed to have some humour in it to offset the gore, but it takes more than saying fuck a lot to make me laugh. It might have been ridiculous, but it wasn't funny.

Avoid.

Go and see Cloud Atlas instead. Twice if you have to.
