According to the weather forecast we're expecting anything up to 40 centimetres of snow overnight and through tomorrow. And it's cold outside. Bloody cold. If and when it snows it will stick.

Blimey! I'm driving up there for the con on Wednesday (and that will be up at Keighley, at the back of Ilkley moor.) I did not want to know this, I really didn't.

They're forecasting heavy snow today and more light snow over the weekend, but the forecast is not good. Better to be forewarned. We have about 25 cm down at the moment but it's snowing steadily and there's no sign of it slowing down. It's also a bit blowy so there will be unpredictable drifting. That can cause more problems than the actual amount of snow-dump.

We're used to snow up here, so once the rate of fall slows down they'll probably get the main roads cleared fairly efficiently. The A629 runs all the way to Keighley. You should be OK by Wednesday.

I don't know what the long range forecast is like, but even if there's snow on the ground the main roads should be OK from there into Bradford for Eastercon. I've got Jaine Fenn and Dave coming up here on Thursday to use us as a staging post and we're heading for Bradford Friday morning. I'm not anticipating dire problems on the roads, though I'm not saying all the snow will have cleared by then. We're high (above the 900 ft 'usual' snowline), but it's only the small stretch of road between the A629 and our front door that might cause problems.

See you at the Con. Are you on the superhero movie panel by any chance? It seems like your cup of tea.

We're commuting into the con from Keighley while visiting Pamela (who is coming with us to the con.) I might start having kittens about the hill turning into Saltaire...

I'm on two superhero panels, including the one with you. (Also on one with Roz and various other people about the current trends in comic publishing in Marvel and DC - the event crossovers where everything changes and everything stays the same.) Oh well, gives me a chance to wear my Rogers/Stark 2012 campaign T-shirt.

Jean is doing a thing on 'forgotten' 70s TV. The chap whose idea it was is moderating, apparently on the principle that they "just chat about 70s TV." The other three people on the panel are about as knowledgeable as people get. They want a tad more structure...

I think I'm on that Superhero panel precisely because I see (most of) the movies but I don't read comics, so for me the movies have to stand on their own as I go into them without any preconceived ideas or urgent need to see them include every last bit of canon backstory.

I'm also moderating the Zulu culture panel on Friday and I'm on a writing panel on characterisation, but I don't know the times yet.

I feel sadly cheated at the moment. A couple of weeks ago, it looked as though spring had finally arrived -- and then it changed its mind, turned tail and fled!

I had to nip out early this morning for milk and while it wasn't actually snowing, it wasn't far off and the snowline has moved a few fields lower on the mountain. Not good! :(

Our snow-line is usually around the 900 ft mark (which we are above) but this is much more widespread. Listening to Woman's Hour on Radio4 this morning I note that Jennie Murray didn't make it into the Manchester studio because of snow.

I just hope this hasn't ruined the daffodils. They're pretty resilient, but this is just the wrong time for a dump of snow. I like my daffs. It doesn't feel like spring until they're out. Even before the snow fell they were far from out. It's a very late spring this year at this altitude - after a miserable winter.
