Must start thinking about the magic pirate adventure quest novel again. I'm 78,000 words into the first draft and I probably only need about 10,000 words to finish it off. I can do that in a day or two, no problem... except I got diverted by a rewrite of 'The Settlement' (working title) and it's sucking my brain out through my arse. What I thought would be a fairly simple alteration sparked off a new ending and...
I'm not actually sure I'm going to end up with a better book, just a different one.
So, back to pirates. Here's a bit of fun.

Date: Jan. 29th, 2008 08:24 am (UTC)Actually you gave me deja vu, as I've just finished writing my TWP contribution (yes, the deadline's next weekend), and I distinctly remember your contribution to the previous one (that'll be two months ago then) saying you were 78,000 words into 'Elf Oak' with 10K to go.
So, best finish it, then I'll stop nagging (about that book, anyway).

Date: Jan. 29th, 2008 04:34 pm (UTC)It's your fault I haven't finished it yet because in nagging me about Cora you diverted my attention from Elf-Oak.
:-)
Okay... maybe not quite your fault, but following on from our discussion about cool techy neural implants... the change from natural telepathy to psi-tech actually didn't seem to be a big one at first, however by the time I got about 80% of the way through the alterations the ripples had oscillated into a veritable tsunami and I'm having to completely rewrite the ending.
This is actually not a Bad Thing, but it does mean my little pirate fetish is waving her pistols at me for nothing at the moment. I don't want to leave Cora half done.
And thanks for the TWP reminder, but I think I'm going to drop out. I don't feel to have much of a connection with fandom in general and I manage to keep up with you and bluehairsue better on Live Journal. I suppose I'd better let someone know.
