...DHL

A couple of weeks ago I had two work permits that I needed to get to Texas in a hurry for incoming performers. The package didn't need to be sent overnight, but as I only had about ten days before they flew to the UK I thought I'd be on the safe side. I didn't want to risk air mail post which says it can take three to five days, but can be longer - especially when the recipient lives a long way from anywhere - i.e my guys in Texas. So I booked DHL to courier the envelope at a cost of thirty-some pounds.

When it didn't arrive at the other end the recipients did some digging. It turns out that DHL don't deliver to that part of Texas, so having couriered my package from Yorkshire to the USA.... they posted it.

Let me say that again...

They frigging POSTED it!!!!!!

And my guys, having sussed it out managed to collect their work permits from the post office on their way to the airport. It was THAT close.

Sheesh!

We are actually banned by Purchasing from using DHL where I work, because DHL have consistently been so bad at their job. We stick with UPS and FedEx.

To be fair I use DHL a lot for UK parcel deliveries and they've been very good so far. The local pick-up and delivery drivers are excellent.

I just sent a package to my son in Rome, so we'll see... It's not desperatey urgent and I've insured it for full value.

I was put off UPS many years ago when a package we desperately needed was on the back of a UPS wagon circling Nova Scotia for two weeks because the driver said he couldn't find the street address for delivery desopite it being clearly on his paperwork.

FedEx have always been excellent but I let my account with them lapse when I stopped sending so many CDs to the USA.

Shit on a stick. Can you claim a refund? This service is not just crap, it is not as advertised: unless of course the small print says "actually when we get it to the States we'll just drop it in a postbox for you"...?

I think you should ask for your money back - if they can't deliver your parcel, they have an obligation to either tell you or use a local courier.

Putting it in the mail is just... unbelievable.
