Behind the cut...
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before? Said yes when future son in law called to ask for daughter's hand in marriage.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't make them.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? My future son in law's sister. Not that close.
4. Did anyone close to you die? The husband of a friend in Canada (yesterday) otherwise I have attended no funerals this year, thank goodness.
5. What countries did you visit? None. I stayed at home which was fantastic after so many years of gadding about like a loony
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? A book deal, A literary agent. Money.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Can't think, so none, obviously.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Personally? 60,000 words in the month of November. Generally? My kids are my ongoing biggest achievement, that they seem to be happy is a delight.
9. What was your biggest failure? Not getting a book deal or a literary agent, but it's only temporary.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Yes, but nothing I can't cope with.
11. What was the best thing you bought? My laptop.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? My kids. Best Beloved's. The American people in November.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? Politicians who are supposed to be cleverer than me and yet still can't find a peaceful way out of Iraq and Afghanistan. People who shoot tourists in hotels and call it a political statement.
14. Where did most of your money go? On living
15. What are you really, really, really excited about? Errr...
16. What song will always remind you of 2008? Errr...
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) Happier. Same
b) Bigger or smaller? Same
c) richer or poorer? Same
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? I should have done more exercise. I wish I'd dome more (music) work.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Prevaricating
20. How will you be spending Christmas? At home with family and friends and the telly
21. What was your favourite month of 2008? May was lovely.
22. Did you fall in love in 2008? I've been in love for 41 years
23. What was your favourite TV program? Doctor Who.
24. How did you see in the New Year? With BB and Mum
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No
26. What was the best book you read? Lois McMaster Bujold: Curse of Chalion (again)
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? I work with music. Much of it great. It takes a lot to get me excited beyond that.
28. What did you want and get? my laptop
29. What did you want and not get? A book deal. A literary agent. Money. New windows for BB's barn project.
30. What was your favourite film of this year? Stardust (probably) though Mamma Mia was a lot of fun even though I hate to admit it. Dark Knight was good and Iron Man was better than I expected. There haven't been a lot of great movies to choose from this year.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Nothing much and old enough.
32. What one thing would have made in fact that your year immeasurably more satisfying? A book deal. A literary agent and money. Getting the idea of a theme here?
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Quirky and personal when out. Lots of black. Black trousers and tops with something flowing and more colourful over the top. Something warm when I'm at home. (Big fleece bags with my head hands and feet poking out would do for me in winter. I don't care what they look like.)
34. What kept you sane? Me.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Errr... Define 'fancy'. I'd like a cup of tea with David Tennant or Russell Brand or John Barrowman. And as long as I only had to fancy him from a distance Johnny Depp might be on the 'fancy' list, or that drop-dead gorgeous bloke from Lost (pauses to look up names) Naveen Andrews. That doesn't mean I've forgotten Patrick Stewart of course, he can go on the cup of tea list, because he's a perennial favourite. Some blokes are too gorgeous for their own good. I can appreciate gorgeous blokes, of course, but preferably from a safe distance.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? I try not to get stirred by politics otherwise I could end up on a soapbox.
37. Who did you miss? My friend Cresta, but I've been missing her for ten years.
38. Who was the best new person you met? Robert Graham - Tanglefoot's new pianist on their UK tour. Also Anne, the new wife of an old friend who I hope to see more of in the new year.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008. Err... Don't volunteer for anything... I learned it, but I didn't really grok it, so I still volunteer.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. I don't even know how to sum up my year, let alone find a song lyric to do it.
