This is an Audible abridged listen, a re-read for me. It's a sequel to Deep Secret and takes place in the multiverse of the magids. Magids travel the multiverse sorting out magical problems. In a parallel universe Arianrhod (Roddy) and her best friend, Grundo, discover a plot involving the new 'Merlin' - the head magician of the island of Blest. Unfortunately no one believes them when they try to tell the adults. Nick Mallory (whom we met in Deep Secrets) is a boy living in our universe, dreaming of being a magid. Nick accidentally travels to Roddy's universe where he promises to help Roddy. It seems that some powerful magids are being kidnapped, including Roddy's parents.
